Position Responsibilities

As a General Clerk I, you will perform a variety of mailroom and document processing duties in support of federal background investigation operations. Responsibilities include:

  • Review, understand, and properly route documents related to background investigations.
  • Receive, sort, stage, and distribute incoming and outgoing mail and packages.
  • Consolidate mailings to maximize cost savings in accordance with contract guidelines.
  • Operate mailroom equipment used for inserting, sorting, extracting, and processing mail.
  • Follow Official Mail Center procedures and established mail handling best practices.
  • Copy, scan, file, and retain documents according to contract requirements.
  • Access electronic databases to verify, update, and route records in both paper and electronic formats.
  • Prepare and track shipments and other sensitive materials.
  • Maintain accurate chain-of-custody and tracking documentation.
  • Follow all biohazard awareness and handling procedures.
  • Maintain eligibility for work within a secure government environment by complying with reporting requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Qualified candidates must have:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Basic computer skills (experience with assistive technology preferred)
  • Ability to learn computer systems and assistive technology
  • Ability to work scheduled hours
  • Legal blindness in both eyes
  • United States citizenship (natural-born or naturalized)

Federal Contract Requirements

Due to federal contract requirements, applicants must:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Be legally blind, defined as:
  • Best corrected visual acuity of 20/200 or less, or
  • A visual field of 20 degrees or less.
  • This position requires the ability to use available vision effectively for close work and/or peripheral vision, with the ability to adjust focus as needed to perform essential job functions.

Security Requirements

This position is located within a secure government facility. Employment is contingent upon successfully completing:

Federal and state criminal background investigations

  • Federal SF-86 security questionnaire
  • Credit check
  • Drug screening
  • E-Verify employment verification
